aturday, November 4th, Italy celebrated its Veteran's Day. Here it is called "Giornata delle Forze Armate" and the locals call it "giorno della caduta" (day of the fallen). There is a permanent memorial in the park that has the colors of the Italian flag and the names of those who were "caduti" and "dispersi" (fallen and missing). On one side are the names from WWI and on the other side are the names from WWII. Last Saturday, in front of the memorial, the mayor gave a speech and then read the names of all of the veterans. After each name was read, the crowd responded with "presente." The kids from the elementary school recited poems and sang a song or two. Saturday, November 11, 2006
